DISABILITY INSURANCE THROUGH GROUP PLAN
The problem with disability coverage through group plans is the coverage limit. For example, OMA (Ontario Medical Association) currently covers $15,000 per month. An income of over $570,000 is not covered. The solution is to consider coverage that will go higher.
You can get the following: Own Occupation Rider; Residual Disability Rider; Partial disability; Helping to protect against inflation; Future Insurability Option Rider.
Sale of Business Facilitator Rider
If you must sell your business due to a disability, this will help with costs such as legal fees, accounting etc.
Can you make over 10 per cent on your money in today's market?
Consider the Return of Premium (50 per cent) Rider. This rider returns up to 50 per cent of the yearly eligible premium paid or waived under your policy if you have had minimal or no claims after 7 years, and every 7 years thereafter.
There are many other features you can add to this rider to make the coverage more cost effective. For an example, a waiting period of up to 720 days can be added.
